Hi! I’m Rachna!
Nice to Meet You
My Mission
I’m Rachna and I am the founder of Empathetic Tutor.
It’s no secret that the STEM world isn’t the friendliest place. Every day students fall behind in school and lose faith in themselves. I’m here to make these daunting subjects more accessible for every student.
In my 12+ years of teaching and tutoring math and chemistry, I have personally helped students make incredible transformations by simply giving them the extra care, attention, and compassion they need. Students of mine have gone from feeling stupid to feeling pride, perfectionistic to self-accepting, having panic attacks before math tests to calm and confident, and dejected and barely passing to getting an A and majoring in chemistry.
My mission is to help as many students as possible make these unbelievable transformations.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that every child is intelligent and capable of learning difficult material. I love students asking questions, engaging with math and chemistry, and using their critical thinking skills. My two major goals with every student I meet is to break down difficult material according to their specific needs and to imbue them with the confidence they need to succeed. There is NO SUCH THING as a bad student or a dumb question in my classroom.
Learning Disabilities
I will accept any student regardless of their unique challenges. Personally, I was diagnosed with ADHD and General Anxiety Disorder in 2019. I get what its like. I bring this personal experience to the table with every student I teach because I never want anyone to feel alone. I am very good at holding the attention of inattentive students, calming down test anxiety, and giving students the space to be themselves while they learn.
Educational Background
I received my Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry with honors in 2019 from Lafayette College. I am completing my Master’s of Science in Chemistry from University of Cincinnati at the end of this year and currently working on my second Master's of Science in Cosmetic Science. I won the Thomas B Cameron award for teaching excellence from the University of Cincinnati and the American Chemical Society Division of Inorganic Chemistry Award.
Teaching Experience
Since 2013 I have taught High School Chemistry, AP Chemistry, College General Chemistry, Organic chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Calc I (AB), Calc II (BC), Calc 3, ACT Math, ACT Science, SAT Math, PSAT, and GRE Math. I have taught each of these subjects 1-on-1, in small groups of 2-6 students! I have taught general and organic chemistry to groups of 20-30 students and in groups of 100+ students!
